Personal Details: Ray's father was a Methodist Minister. His cousins Ian Harray and Owen Richards were in the Fleet Air Arm before he joined. Ray was educated at Wellington College. Before the war he worked for a book publisher, and he continued in that profession postwar right up till the present day. In the 2005 New Years Honours list Ray was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to publishing.

Service Details: Ray joined the Royal New Zealand Navy (Volunteer Reserve) and trained as a Fleet Air Arm fighter pilot.

Today: Ray lives on Auckland's North Shore

Connection with Cambridge: Ray lived in Cambridge for some years pre-war
